Meet

Praveen, Swarna & Sanjay

Praveen & Swarna Kumar grew up helping on their family farm in South India and to this day they import the spices they need to create authentic Indian food from their Family farms back home. Praveen’s career within the hospitality industry has seen him travel across continents, working in some of the world’s most prestigious five-star establishments before settling in Perth, Scotland.

The couple’s city centre Tabla Restaurant is Perth’s only rosette standard Indian eatery and is a popular choice for locals and visitors alike.

Most importantly though, Praveen & Swarna are passionate and inspirational chefs, with a genuine love for the dishes he creates and the ingredients they use. They will draw you into their world of spices and authentic methods, teaching you how to embrace the very simple act of preparing and eating delicious Indian food.

Chef Sanjay was born into a Scottish-Indian family obsessed with food – eating, cooking and exploring new flavours was encouraged by his parents from a young age. They quickly convinced him that to eat well, you must be able to cook well!

Having finished his studies in London as a biochemist, he moved from learning and working in fine dining restaurants to focusing on his real passion as a teacher, working with a wide range of students – from young adults at a field to table cookery school, to running private skills-focused classes. Over three years, he cooked, taught and ate his way around London and The South – working in farmyard barns, hospital schools, universities and private homes, always lead by a desire to spread his passion for food and cooking.

He has recently moved up to Perthshire and is looking forward to developing and running cookery courses with Praveen Kumar, at the Indian Cook School.
